Barnaby Jones Funeral Services is a local, family‑owned and family‑run Funeral Directors based in Glossop, Derbyshire. Partners David and Sarah are incredibly proud to announce the opening of their first independent funeral home, built on compassion, tradition, and genuine care for the community they call home.

 

As a Glossop family with two children, Poppy and Barnaby, it felt only right that our business reflected the values we hold closest. We chose to name our Funeral Directors after our son Barnaby, a name that represents strength, comfort, and guidance — qualities we believe are essential when supporting families through difficult times. The name Barnaby is associated with offering relief, reassurance, and support, which perfectly reflects the service we strive to provide.

 

Our daughter Poppy chose the name for our chapel of rest: “The Poppy Room.” This peaceful space is where families can spend precious time with their loved one. Historically, the poppy has long symbolised sleep, peace, and remembrance. In ancient Greek and Roman traditions, poppies were offered to honour the deceased representing both eternal rest and the hope of resurrection. We felt this meaning beautifully aligned with the comfort we hope to offer.

 

David brings over 10 years of experience within the funeral profession, having worked for both corporate and independent Funeral Directors. This breadth of experience has shaped his approach and ensures that every family receives thoughtful, knowledgeable, and personal care.

 

He is supported by his partner Sarah, who spent more than a decade as a Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Her background brings a deep understanding of the sensitivities surrounding loss, as well as the practical guidance families often need during such a difficult time.

 

Together, David and Sarah are committed to upholding the highest standards of respect, compassion, and professionalism. Their shared experience and dedication ensure that every funeral is arranged with care, attention, and dignity.
